Description
Mono Lake in the eastern Sierra Nevada Range of California is a large, shallow saline soda lake formed at least 760,000 years ago. Because it has no outlet to the sea, high levels of salt have accumulated in the lake causing the formation of tufa columns. This scene was captured on a fall day as the sagebrush and grasses took on the glow of the setting sun.
