The Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) is a very large prehistoric looking bird that is found on the Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf coasts of North America. The Brown Pelican feeds by diving into the water, scooping up fish and then emptying its pouch of water before swallowing its prey. This magnificent pelican was photographed swimming in Half Moon Bay, California, USA.
