The Dark-Eyed Junco (Junco hyemalis) is the best-known of the juncos, a variety of small grayish sparrow with a dark shoulder and head. This bird is common across much of temperate North America and in summer ranges far into the Arctic. This Dark-Eyed Junco was photographed in Edgewood, Washington State, USA.

Photographer Jeff Goulden has combined his lifelong passion for photography and his love of the natural world, creating a portfolio that reveals nature in its pure and simple beauty.
