The Greater Scaup (Aythya marila) is a common winter resident in the Pacific Northwest, usually arriving by October and departing in May. This female was photographed swimming in a pond near Damon Point in Ocean Shores, Washington State, USA.

Photographer Jeff Goulden has combined his lifelong passion for photography and his love of the natural world, creating a portfolio that reveals nature in its pure and simple beauty.
