Buffalo Park is a 163-acre park located on McMillan Mesa in Flagstaff, Arizona, USA. The park was created on land acquired in 1963 from the United States Forest Service. It was originally set up as wildlife park featuring a pond stocked with ducks and other waterfowl as well as a few native animals such as elk. By the time the park opened in 1964, eight bison were brought in to reside there. These bison gave Buffalo Park its name. The wildlife park lost money and the animals were removed after 5 years. Today Buffalo Park is managed as open-space and has become the crown jewel of the city’s park system. The park offers breathtaking panoramic views of the San Francisco Peaks, Mount Elden and the Dry Lake Hills. After the summer monsoon rains, the expansive meadows are often carpeted with wildflowers. The San Francisco Peaks are in the background.
