Artist's Description
The Orange-Crowned Warbler (Leiothlypis celata) is a small, olive-toned songbird known for its subtle orange crown, typically hidden beneath its feathers. Preferring shrubby habitats, riparian zones, and forest edges, it thrives in the diverse landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. Feeding primarily on insects, spiders, and caterpillars, the warbler also enjoys nectar and berries, especially during migration. Its delicate build and thin, pointed bill make it an efficient forager. Migratory in nature, the Orange-crowned Warbler breeds in Washington State during the summer months and may travel southward for the winter. A soft trill and gentle 'chip' calls add to its understated charm, making it a delightful yet unassuming member of the region's avian community. This Orange-Crowned Warbler was photographed perched on a branch in Edgewood, Washington State, USA.
