With the advent of radar, GPS and other advanced navigation tools, lighthouses no longer need to perform the same function they once did; guiding ships to safety. Instead they have been preserved as historic monuments; reminding us of a time when shipping and sailing were more perilous activities. The Point Reyes Lighthouse is located at the Point Reyes National Seashore, California, USA.
